People have asked me why I am seeking office as a new resident of Norwalk. I have moved to this city and I have made it my home. I am running for Common Council because I believe that I will bring a new energy and thoughtfulness to the Council that will be valuable to the city as it plans for the future. Growing up, I was always told that it is everyone’s responsibility to make a positive impact on the community that you live in. Some folks volunteer as coaches, some teach in our public schools, and others help their neighbors during times of need. I want to serve my community by bringing my diverse skill set and unique view of the world to the Common Council.

While I have only recently moved to Norwalk, I am not new to Connecticut politics. Last year, I had the privilege of working on the Lamont for Senate campaign. During my time with the campaign, I had the opportunity to meet many of Norwalk’s political leaders and residents. Our main Fairfield County headquarters was located on Van Zant Street, and I spent a good deal of time there, meeting and working with volunteers and discussing the issues facing our city. As I considered running for Common Council, I was in close touch with many of these people. Their encouragement is a large part of why I am running today.

Norwalk needs leaders with vision; people who are willing to look outside the box to find solutions to our city’s needs. I believe that I am one of those people. Over the past few years, I have worked in the private sector and the not-for-profit sector. I have worked for small, family run businesses, and large corporations. I believe that my diverse work experience will bring a unique vision to the Council and allow me to work across lines to reach common goals. Norwalk is at a crossroads and it requires leaders who will take the time to listen to people and learn about the details before making decisions that will impact our lives. I am that type of leader and I hope to have the opportunity to serve.

I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope that you will support my campaign with your vote on November 6th.

Best,

Delivering on a call from citizens across Norwalk, Walter Briggs and Common Council candidate Marc Bradley announced their commitment to implement a “green building” program in their first term in office.

“As a coastal community, Norwalk must lead the way in establishing green building practices,” said Briggs. Noting the inclusion of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards in the Master Plan, he added “Our city buildings should be the first under the microscope – we’re paying unnecessary costs because of a failure to address these problems in a timely fashion.”

Describing his term as Chair of Norwalk’s Planning Commission, Briggs noted that “I listened to Norwalk’s residents, who were clear that we need a long-term vision for making our city environmentally sound. We can set the bar higher, which will benefit Norwalk’s environment and economic health at the same time.”

Marc Bradley, an At-Large Common Council candidate who has worked professionally in energy conservation, agrees.

NORWALK — The last time the Working Families Party endorsed a candidate for Common Council, it was Democratic Council President Michael Coffey.

This year, Working Families announced Tuesday, it will endorse nearly the entire Democratic slate.

Two years after Coffey said he “bucked political party insiders” by accepting the minor party’s endorsement, Working Families backed all five Democratic at-large candidates — newcomers Michael Geake, Amanda Brown and Marc Bradley and incumbents Fred Bondi and Doug Sutton — and seven candidates for districted seats.
